Assistant Coach Nerissa Myers Announces Retirement from Professional Softball
BALTIMORE – Coppin State assistant softball coach Nerissa Myers capped off her professional playing career with a home run during the final game of the Athletes Unlimited season on Monday evening.  Myers announced her retirement as a player following the game after drawing a league-high 13 walks during the season.

Coppin Places 52 Student-Athletes on 2020 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team, Presented by GEICO
NORFOLK, Va. – Fifty-two Coppin State University student-athletes were named to the MEAC 2020 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, presented by GEICO, it was announced by the league office on Thursday morning.  The team honors student-athletes, with at least sophomore standing, who have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Softball Places Seven on MEAC All-Academic Team
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State University's men's track & field program placed 14 individuals on the Academic All-MEAC Team, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have recorded at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 2019-20 academic year.

Senior Spotlights with Softball’s Cloe’ Ochoa
Cloe' Ochoa is a senior on the Coppin State softball team, where she has played in 125 games the last four years, starting in 119 of them in the infield.  A native of Covina, Calif., Ochoa has also made 14 appearances with eight starts in the pitcher's circle.  As a freshman in 2017, Ochoa was named Second Team All-MEAC, and later received Preseason All-Conference honors prior to her sophomore season.  Ochoa has hit .278 for her career with 17 doubles, a pair of triples and a home run along with 31 RBI and 54 runs scored. Her older sister, Camille, also played a pair of seasons for the Eagles (2017-18) and served as an assistant coach in 2019.

President Burnim’s Statement on CSU Athletics Spring Season
BALTIMORE - As we continue to monitor the details regarding COVID-19, it has become clear that further steps must be taken in order to preserve the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, to the extent that we are able. To this end, and as of March 13, 2020, all Coppin State University Athletics competition and practices will be suspended for the remainder of the spring seasons. This decision is also in line with a recent decision soon to be announced by the Mideastern Athletic Conference.  The safety of our student-athletes must be prioritized, and it is a necessary decision as we face the harsh reality and threat that the COVID-19 pandemic poses.

Softball’s Rally Falls Short in Opener Versus Saint Peter’s; Eagles Also Fall in Nightcap
BALTIMORE – Coppin State's softball team rallied for a pair of seventh inning runs in the opening game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's but fell to the Peacocks, 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon at CSU Softball Field.  The Eagles also dropped the nightcap, 9-1.

Softball Takes Opening Game of Doubleheader at UMBC
CATONSVILLE, Md. – Coppin State's softball team got great pitching from Jaylene Sierra and Lily Carter and a pair of RBI from both Haley Bravo and Alexis Genovese in a 6-2 victory in game one of a doubleheader at UMBC on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles' victory in the opener was their first of the season and the first for head coach Ashley Cook who is in her first season at the helm of the CSU softball program.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After falling, 11-0 to Campbell University in the opening game on Saturday, Coppin State's softball team dropped a 9-4 decision to Charleston Southern in the second day of the Holy City Showdown at College of Charleston.

Softball Drops Pair on Opening Day of College of Charleston’s Holy City Showdown
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coppin State's softball team dropped its first two games of the season against Chattanooga and Charleston Southern on Friday at the Holy City Showdown hosted by College of Charleston.  The Eagles fell to the Mocs, 7-0, in the opener before taking a 10-2 loss against the Buccaneers.
