Former Eagle Jorge Rodriguez-Rey Wins Frederick Open Title
FREDERICK, Md. - Former Coppin State tennis standout Jorge Rodriguez-Rey ('19) was featured in the Frederick News Post after winning last month's Frederick Open.  A native of Bogota, Columbia, Rodriguez-Rey was a Second Team All-MEAC selection in 2018 and is now an assistant tennis coach at Hood College.

Coppin Places 52 Student-Athletes on 2020 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team, Presented by GEICO
NORFOLK, Va. – Fifty-two Coppin State University student-athletes were named to the MEAC 2020 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, presented by GEICO, it was announced by the league office on Thursday morning.  The team honors student-athletes, with at least sophomore standing, who have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Tennis Teams with The ACE Project to Virtually Serve Under-Resourced Communities
BALTIMORE – Coppin State's tennis program has partnered with The ACE Project, a non-profit organization that serves up opportunities for kids living in under-resourced communities in Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit, by implementing digital programming for participants. This is the first step in the ACE Project's response to the COVID-19 virus and the Eagles tennis players have been conducting fitness, social, emotional learning and virtual field trip sessions.

Tennis Places Seven Eagles on Academic All-MEAC Tennis Team
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State University's tennis program placed seven individuals on the Academic All-MEAC Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have recorded at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 2019-20 academic year.

President Burnim’s Statement on CSU Athletics Spring Season
BALTIMORE - As we continue to monitor the details regarding COVID-19, it has become clear that further steps must be taken in order to preserve the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, to the extent that we are able. To this end, and as of March 13, 2020, all Coppin State University Athletics competition and practices will be suspended for the remainder of the spring seasons. This decision is also in line with a recent decision soon to be announced by the Mideastern Athletic Conference.  The safety of our student-athletes must be prioritized, and it is a necessary decision as we face the harsh reality and threat that the COVID-19 pandemic poses.
