Baseball Receives ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for Third-Straight Year
GREENSBORO, N.C – For the third-straight year, the Coppin State University baseball team received the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.  The Eagles were one of just 65 NCAA Division I teams, and one of just two MEAC schools to receive the honor, which recognizes programs that record at least a 3.0 Team GPA for the academic year.

Coppin Places 52 Student-Athletes on 2020 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team, Presented by GEICO
NORFOLK, Va. – Fifty-two Coppin State University student-athletes were named to the MEAC 2020 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, presented by GEICO, it was announced by the league office on Thursday morning.  The team honors student-athletes, with at least sophomore standing, who have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Baseball Places Nine Eagles on MEAC All-Academic Team
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State University's baseball team placed nine individuals on the Academic All-MEAC Team, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have recorded a 3.0 grade point average or better  for the 2019-20 academic year.

Senior Spotlights with Baseball's Corey Treyes
Corey Treyes has shattered the record books at Coppin State as he holds the school-record with 17 saves, which is seven more than any other Eagles player.  A switch-hitter and right-handed pitcher, Treyes has been one of the top two-way players in the MEAC and the Region the last three seasons, earning placement on the John Olerud Award Watch List and NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List in 2019 and 2020.  As a junior in 2019, Treyes was a Third Team All-MEAC selection at Third Base after hitting .330 during conference play from the leadoff spot. On the mound, 15 of his saves came the last two seasons, including a CSU single-season record eight saves in 2018.

Senior Spotlights with Baseball's Anthony Martinez
Senior righthander Anthony Martinez was a constant in the Coppin State bullpen the last three years before moving to the starting rotation this season.  In 35 career games on the mound, Martinez ranks ninth in CSU history with 31 relief appearances and has struck out 43 batters in 67.0 career innings.  Martinez had his best season as a junior in 2019 when he made a career-high 15 appearances and recorded a 3.25          ERA with 17 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.

Senior Spotlights with Baseball's Aaron Rea
One of the most accomplished pitchers in Coppin State baseball history, redshirt senior Aaron Rea was a Preseason All-MEAC selection going into the 2020 season.  A native of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Rea has gone 11-1 in conference games the last two years and ranks second in school-history in games started (44), wins (15), strikeouts (208) and innings pitched (248.1).  As a junior in 2018, Rea led the Eagles to a MEAC Northern Division Championship while going 6-0 with a 2.49 ERA in conference games.

Justin Banks and Tim Ruffino Earn MEAC Baseball Weekly Honors from Games on March 3-8
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Justin Banks has been named the MEAC Baseball Player of the Week from games on March 3-8, it was announced by the league office on Sunday night.  Additionally, Tim Ruffino was selected as the Rookie of the Week for those games.

President Burnim’s Statement on CSU Athletics Spring Season
BALTIMORE - As we continue to monitor the details regarding COVID-19, it has become clear that further steps must be taken in order to preserve the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, to the extent that we are able. To this end, and as of March 13, 2020, all Coppin State University Athletics competition and practices will be suspended for the remainder of the spring seasons. This decision is also in line with a recent decision soon to be announced by the Mideastern Athletic Conference.  The safety of our student-athletes must be prioritized, and it is a necessary decision as we face the harsh reality and threat that the COVID-19 pandemic poses.

Castillo Breaks School-Record for Triples in Baseball’s Loss at Mount St. Mary’s
EMMITSBURG, Md. – Marcos Castillo broke the school-record for career triples as the Coppin State's baseball team fell at Mount St. Mary's, 10-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Straw Family Stadium.  The Mountaineers used eight different pitchers with seven relievers throwing one inning each.
