This course is d signed to introduce students to the basic concepts, goals, and research sh·ategies of urban planning. Special emphasis is placed on exploring the nature of the uniquely American dynamic between urban planning and issues of race, justice and equity in the urban environment. Specific attention will be devoted to urban plamung issues ide1.1tified in the Coppin Heights/Greater Rosemont neighborhood. Students will be afforded not only the opportunity to enrich their theoretical understand but to apply
!f,.at understanding in the service of community engagement. In some instances, students will collaborate with the Coppin H ights Community Development Corporation to bring student teaching, research and learning to increase the quality of life with and for the residents of Coppin Heights.
