A study of the major theories of literary criticism from Plato and Aristotle to contemporary critics. Consideration is given to the various psychological, social, and economic esthetics of literary criticism and the application of critical theories to literary works. Must be completed before ENGL 496. Fall semesters. Prerequisite: ( ENGL 101 or 103) AND (ENGL 102 or 104) AND (1 of WLIT 203, 204, 205, 206) AND (ENGL 207 or 210) AND (All of ENGL 201, 202, 205, 206, 208)
