Introduction to Poverty Law

A study of the impact of the criminal justice system upon the poor. Public interest law and the use of the criminal justice system in impoverished communities are reviewed. An analysis of the impact of historical and contemporary theories of combatting crime on the poor , weak, and or politically deprived are reviewed. The impact of poverty as an industry or permanent culture is examined. The role and limits of law enforcement in serving the poor are reviewed. Laws focusing upon children, the elderly, the homeless and the physically and mentally disabled are discussed.
